摘要

Modem remote sensing and earth observation began after the invention of the camera and the first aerial photographs captured from hot air balloons and carrier pigeons. The process of remote sensing involves the detection and measurement of radiation reflected or emitted from objects at different wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum. In its simplest form, aerial photographs captured in the visible portions of the electromagnetic spectrum have long been exploited by geologists to orient themselves in the field.
