MINCON has celebrated 30 years in the production of rock drilling tools. The company, which is based at Shannon, Ireland, was founded by Patrick Purcell, initially to manufacture precision parts for hydraulic top hammers. The company eventually moved into the design and build of down-the-hole hammers and bits for use in blast hole, water, geothermal, construction and oil and gas drilling applications, and in 2000 a brand new range of products was introduced. To meet demand for drill bits, Mincon acquired US-based Percussion Bit & Tool Inc. Since the company joined the Mincon Group it has increased its output potential at its plant in Benton, Illinois, and now offers a full range of OTH products, to cover the range 85-254mm.
