The quality of mineral wool products is affected by the diameters of the fibres. The fibre diameters depend on the kinematic and thermodynamic parameters of the mineral wool production process, and on the chemical composition of the raw materials used. The parametric constants of a preset regression model describing the diameters of the fibres produced on a double-disc spinning machine were first determined experimentally. An analysis of the influence of the temperature distribution of the spinning disc during the production of mineral wool on the diameter of fibres is presented. For this purpose, the temperature distribution was measured using an infrared camera. The non-uniform temperature distribution determines the amount of variation produced in the diameters of mineral wool fibres. Determination of the parametric constants in the regression model for mineral wool fibre diameter allows enables the prediction of different fibre diameters due to the non-uniform temperature distribution across the second spinning disc.
