In the mass cultivation of St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum) herbicides must be applied for the control of weeds because of economic reasons. Tests in Thuringia (Germany) since 1995 have shown that some herbicides are suitable for the control of different weeds. Also the tests have shown that for high densities of weeds, tank mixtures or successional sprays with the tested herbicides gave the best results. Presently, only two herbicides are authorized for weed control in St. John's wort. Residue values must be determined for the active ingredients of several herbicides.
