As the Greenhouse and Processing Crops Research Centre celebrates 100 years of service to the agricultural industries of Essex and the surrounding counties, it is timely to review its role in the greenhouse industry. Because the first years of the Centre focused largely on tobacco, the greenhouses where growers raised their seedlings and transplants presented the early researchers with inevitable problems, particularly the diseases. Dr. Koch and Dr. Z.A. Patrick looked after those.

The collaborations analysed span academia, civil society and government, from the grassroots to the national and global levels.
