Let me take you on a journey to 2030, by which time the world's population will have increased by 25% to 8.3 billion. This, together with cultural changes, will double global demand for water over this 20-year period. Over the same two decades, the availability of fresh water from natural sources will have declined at the rate of 6% per annum. Climate change will not only have altered the seasonal pattern of rainfall, but will be delivering it in sharper, heavier downpours. Water, which we largely take for granted, is going to become a valuable resource.
