When the first Fastenal store opened its doors for business in November 1967, there was no indication that it would ever be anything more than a small-town nuts and bolts shop. Only about seven people came into the store during the first couple of days, and the only items purchased were some 10 lb bags of "farmer's mix". Sales for the first full month of business totalled USD579-that's dollars, not millions.
