President Felipe Calderon was on hand to open Holcim's cement in the Sonora state capital Hermosillo. Through its local subsidiary Holcim Apasco, the firm has invested some US$400m in the construction of the site in the northern state, which will provide 600 local jobs. Holcim's seventh plant in Mexico will have the capacity to produce 1.6Mt/yr and construction took three years to complete. The new facility will increase the company's total production capacity in Mexico to 12.6Mt/yr.
