On 18 December 2007, Rt Hon Stephen Timms MP, UK minister of state for competitiveness, department of business, enterprise and regulatory reform, declared Lafarge Cement UK's new West Midlands headquarters officially open. The minister applauded the company's "vision to produce this environmentally-sensitive building," as well as the estimated inward investment of Euro6.7m into the Solihull area each year. Lafarge occupies just over half of the 5500m~2 (60,000 sq ft) development, with around 140 staff on site. The three-storey, L-shaped building is estimated to be worth Euro29m, a record for the M42 area.
