The Orascom Construction Industries (OCI) cement group is the largest cement producer in the Middle East and a leading regional cement exporter. Its main subsidiaries, the Egyptian Cement Company (ECC) and the Algerian Cement Company (ACC), have an installed annual production capacity of 10Mt/year and 5Mt/year, respectively. With five dry process kilns up and running, ECC controls 25 percent of Egypt's rapidly-expanding cement market. In July 2006, the OCI cement division completed an upgrade in Egypt, a rehabilitation project in northern Iraq and it commissioned a new plant in Pakistan, bringing group capacity to 21Mt/year. Orascom, which enters 2008 with a capacity of 35Mt/year, is currently constructing plants in Algeria, the UAE, northern Iraq and Nigeria, and has recently acquired operations in Turkey and Spain which are being further expanded. The group has previously predicted its annual production capacity to reach 39Mt by 2009, and current estimates now anticipate 45Mt/year in 2010. Orascom Cement also exports-primarily from Egypt- to more than 30 countries, including the USA. The group also produces and distributes ready-mix concrete, aggregates and cement bags in Egypt and Algeria.
