Thailand: Chantana Sukumanont, Siam City Cement's executive vice president for customer relationships, has said that cement exports are likely to fall by up to 20 percent in 2008 as demand in the US drops and Chinese demand shows signs of only slight growth. Ms Chantana said that the company estimated domestic sales would be maintained at 28Mt in 2008, the same as in 2007.The main demand will come from residential projects and existing infrastructure projects. "Our estimate is based on no approvals for new mega-infrastructure projects [in 2008]. However, if the new government speeds up approval of mega-projects worth up to 5.5 billion US dollars in 2008, domestic demand for cement will increase," she predicted.
