Since the cement industry is suffering from the effects of the financial crise, the use of alternative fuels is becoming more and more important in reducing clinker production costs. The industry in Northern Europe, especially in Germany and in Scandinavian countries, is the market leader in using alternative fuels. Substitution rates of sometimes more than 60 percent are standard and have a fixed place in the fuel portfolio of the plants.
