Auckland City Council's most profitable division, Auckland City Parking, became the first organization in New Zealand - and probably the world - to achieve ISO 9001:2000 certification, by Telarc, on the day the new standard was published, 15 December 2000.The division's Operations Manager, Ross Harlick, explained that ISO 9000 had been responsible for a major turnaround in Auckland City Parking's financial performance. Net profits from the council's six car parks at the end of the last financial year were NZD 4,5 million, an increase of NZD 2 million on the end of year profit two years before - and a dramatic improvement on the NZD 700 000 loss ten years ago.
