In addition to stories with serious intent, Larry enjoyed telling stories just for fun, although he could not bring himself to quit his favourite subject of standardization, as he proved in one of his favourite stories which he recounted at the 40~(th) anniversary celebration of the computer manufacturers' association, ECMA, in 2001.I've first committed myself to being witty. Well, thanks to e-mail, there are hundreds of jokes circulating-particularly between CEO's. We have to pass the time somehow… Computer jokes are out of the question-this audience must have heard most of them. So, I'd like you to consider a really challenging proposition. That is that compatibility problems and standardization have been around a lot longer than the invention of the computer! I know it's difficult for you to accept, but listen to the following.
