A milk yield increase of 2.3 litres per cow per day was seen when two naturally occurring plant extracts were introduced to the diet of 186 first-calved heifers at varying stages of lactation in a trial conducted by Pancosma. In a single group, the heifers were fed a control diet of maize silage, lucerne (alfalfa) hay, maize meal and protein concentrate for the first three months of the trial. Then a supplement containing two plant extracts was introduced for a further three months.
