Correspondents' comments suggest that the holiday season has done little to significantly boost seafood consumption in various European markets. Summer demand in Spain for both fresh and frozen seafood was described as disappointing compared to last year. Indications from Italy are mixed, no doubt reflecting seasonally weak demand outside the main tourist centres. In France, the salmon market appears to have had difficulties keeping up with increased supplies of medium size fish although catering demand there for groundfish (a different supply context) is described as satisfactory. Finally, the unsettled weather has not helped the start of the mussel season in Belgium and sales of Dutch mussels in the market have been disappointing.
