Frozen groundfish prices in European markets remain firm and are generally above levels for 2004. The increase in Alaska pollock prices during the first half of this year is helping to maintain upward pressure on prices for substitute groundfish species. The frozen cod fillet market in France is reported firm with indications of an upward movement in prices from Iceland. In contrast, frozen h&g cod prices in Norway are reported lower this month following increases during recent months. For the firstseven months of this year, average values for Norwegian frozen whole and h&g cod are up 5% to NOK20/kg while average values for cod fillet exports are unchanged on the same period last year at NOK41/kg. The price trend for frozen saithe fillets (skinless, boneless) in the German market is stable this month at around 2.15 EUR/kg while good supplies of fillets are reported in the French market. Some reduction in saithe supplies is, however, reported in Norway and auction prices for frozen h&g saithe in the larger and smaller size grades are showing a positive trend as a result. Redfish supplies, particularly for S. mentella, from Iceland are also reported to be weak and prices remgain above average. Average values for Norwegian h&g haddock exports are up 33% in NOK terms for January - July compared to the some period last year.
