Following the Christmas/New Year holidays, European import prices appear broadly stable although this situation is likely to evolve as markets get back to normal trading. Frozen groundfish prices are firm and are expected to remain so at least over the coming months. Weaker prices are reported for frozen tuna, particularly yellowfin, while there are signs of a slight upward trend in frozen squid prices in the Spanish market. Frozen mackerel prices remain high although some easing of prices is possible over the coming weeks if resistance in key east European countries continues. In aquaculture markets, seabass and bream prices are reported stable but salmon prices have been under pressure following difficulties in the Russian market. Frozen shrimp prices appear stable at current low levels.
