The feedstock situation in India has been difficult for qute some time. However, future LNG projects and the discovery of natural gas resources in the Krishna Godavari Basin might change this situation. In this context the possibilities for retrofitting naphtha as well as fuel oil based plants are described. Both otions seem very attractive. The retrofit of a naphtha based plant requires only minor modifications to the feed preparation section. For the fuel oil based plant, a new autothermal reforming nit is proposed to replace the gasifier. By introducing such a unit the specific energy consumption can be significantly reduced.
