It has been over a decade since the annual Sally Letson Symposium last addressed the field of retina. With all that has occurred in the field since then, the 2008 Symposium-which provided a comprehensive update on the diagnosis and treatment of retinal disorders-either couldn't have been better timed or else it was long overdue. We have witnessed tremendous advances in both the medical and surgical aspects of this specialty, with more effective office-based treatments for conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and the transition to sutureless vitrectomy
