The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) increasingly is confronted with complex new public health issues arising out of the rapidly evolving global marketplace. Globalization of product development and manufacture, precipitous growth of imports of FDA-regulated products, and resource concerns have compelled the agency to greatly expand its cooperation with foreign governments. The new international activities make an important contribution to FDA's traditional mission of protecting consumers and promoting the public health.
