The European Parliament is set to vote next month on giving itself powers, under the so-called "comitology" procedure, to scrutinize biotech decisions taken by the European Commission. The report on bringing the comitology-with-scrutiny procedure to biotech legislation is scheduled for a vote in the November plenary session. Parliament's Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee wants to have a three-month scrutiny period over decisions taken by the commission with regard to authorizations ofbiotech food and feed. A report on the legislation was approved in committee by a 40-18 vote in July.
