Authorities in European Union member-states are removing health claims that are too general from lists submitted by food and beverage companies for authorization under the EU's new Health and Nutrition Claims Regulation. National authorities are also looking carefully to determine whether a claim is aimed at children or is a disease risk-reduction claim, both of which require an individual assessment by the European Food Safety Authority.
