Custom Cupola & Steeple Co. Ltd., of Oakville, Ontario, recently completed the roof of an impressive new structure overlooking the Niagara River. The World Peace Buddhas Temple functions as a world gathering place and shrine for Buddhists. It is located in Niagara Falls because of the great number of tourists who visit there from all parts of the world, creating an international place of worship. The Temple contains in its Main Dharma Hall a 14,000 lb (6,400 kg), 8-metre high statue of Buddha.The Temple features seven tiers of copper roofing tiles, manufactured in China by the Chinese Bronze Company who specialize in the manufacture of statuary bells, and other bronze decorative pieces for temples around the world. Each tile consists of a half-round section and a flange, and is manufactured from 0.090 in (2.3 mm) copper plate. Each tile weighs 5(1/2) pounds (2.5 kg). When installed, the tiles are lapped and screwed into a series of wooden sleepers, spaced over the concrete deck. A decorative copper cap covers the end of each line. A series of built-in snowguards was also installed. Custom-made copper eavestrough, hardware, and copper down-pipes were installed around the main roof and first floor of the Temple. The total tonnage of the copper used for the Temple approaches 200,000 lb (90, 000 kg).
