摘要

The Kwanza Basin is one of the classic passive margin basins on the West African margin and developed as a result of the break up of Gondwanaland during the Mesozoic. The onshore part of the Kwanza Basin covers an area of about 25,000 km2 (Figure 1) and has a long history of hydrocarbon exploration and production, though it has been largely dormant for the last decade. The basin has produced commercial hydrocarbons since the 1950s with 11 oilfields and two gas fields producing around 90 MMBOE until the late 1990s. The onshore fields were shut in during the 1980s and 1990s, and were finally abandoned by the end of the last century. However, with the acquisition of new modern 2D seismic and a forthcoming onshore licensing round, the onshore Kwanza is set for a new beginning.
