Anton Ziolkowski, the professor of petroleum geoscience at the University of Edinburgh with a penchant for challenging the conventional wisdom, is honest enough to admit that when he was first approached about an EM project in 1990, his first reaction was 'Why me?' At the time he was focused on other geophysics projects and knew very little about the subject. Today, however, he has just transferred with a number of colleagues from his academic position to MTEM, a university spin-out company aiming to exploit over a decade's worth of work on multi-channel transient electromagnetic surveying.
