Many industries can select their manufacturing locations by optimizing factors such as access to markets, supply chains, availability, and attractiveness of skilled labour, economic, political, fiscal, and legal considerations. Energy companies, on the other hand, have their production sites pretty much determined by the hydrocarbon reservoir locations. And as we are pushing the geological and geographic boundaries in the exploration for oil and gas, the energy sector is presented with the specific challenges of operating in often remote, sparsely populated and testing environments. This presents the energy industry with a challenge. How do you ensure the right people skills can be deployed in such areas?
