2010 was the inaugural year of the new prize. It involved evaluating the work of the LCs based upon the sub-mitted annual reports. The Committee on Membership and Cooperation (nine members from nine different countries) had the right to select the best one. Their choice was Local Chapter Kiev, headed by Prof Mykola Yakimchuk. The report of Kiev was very convincing, their activities are wide-ranging and include the inter-national conference Geoinformatics co-organized annually by LC Kiev. The membership in Ukraine has also increased impressively, and a second student chapter was founded om the initiative of the Kiev chapter as well.
