Passive acquisition appears to be all the rage. Geophysicalsocieties hold workshops on the theme and manymagazine column inches are devoted to it. Some evensay that it is the fastest growing sector in exploration.But is this field really ready for the big-time? Is the industryprepared to 'do passive' properly to get the most out of it?In some ways, passive only seems to be where active acqui-sition was at the dawn of the 3D land seismic era: lots ofexpectation, theories, and ideas but rather less in terms ofhardware well suited to the job or an understanding of all the practicalities.
