Since about 2006, we have witnessed the explosive emergence of an entirely new type of computer. It has already overtaken the PC in sales, and may be the most important development in geo-computing since the widespread appearance of the viz room in the late nineties. It's not the massively parallel supercomputer, and we don't yet have a working quantum computer... it's the mobile touchscreen device.
