The Scottish Salmon Compa-ny (SSC) is part way through piloting a new improved work-based learning programme that offers SSC employees access to nationally recognised fish husbandry qualifications, without them having to leave their workplace to attend college. This project has been undertaken in partnership with Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) Barony campus. The initiative has been designed to transform the way that educationists and trainers support aquacul-ture workforce development in the future,working with companies on their terms to customise delivery to suit company staff development programmes. The SSC are early adopters, pioneering the new approach. Other salmon and trout producing companies are encouraged to share the benefits of the work-based learning system under development, subsequently, and can express an interest at any time.
