LC Energy was born out of a 'Damascene moment' when Mark attended a local renewable energy conference with friends (now co-directors) James Maclean and Richard Melhuish (Land and Water Group). A qualified engineer, Mark built his career in commercialproject management and logistics, providing end-to-end solutions for the sporting industry. Mark says, "In Europe, the market for renewable biomass energy is 50-60 years old, whilst in the UK it is only 6-7 at most. At the conference, we heard presentations on the component parts of woodfuel, but none of the speakers made obvious connections between their parts of the chain. By applying project management, we believed that we could build a relationship between the grower and the user; the timber to theheat cycle. We also recognised that unless we could demonstrate that a supply chain existed, it was unlikely that people were going to install biomass heating units locally."
