Within the scope of the Mobility@ forest project, an innovative user-oriented IT infrastructure for a mobile workplace in the forest enterprises was developed, providing an intelligent support to the forest experts in their acquisition of relevant spatial and technical data. The developed IT solution is to replace the today's paper-based data acquisition to a far extent. The system solution is based on an application-oriented combination and enhancement of geographic information systems, innovative navigation and localisation technologies (GPS, RFID), as well as available communication technologies such as UMTS, GPRS etc., implying the secure and standard-based connection of the mobile workplace to the stationary application systems. The validation of the developed system solution was carried out within the scope a real forest environment.
