A predominant phytoecdysteroid, 20-hydroxyecdysone (1), and one minor ecdysteroid, muristerone A (2), were obtained from aerial parts of Dichorisandra hexandra, collected from the Chagres National Park in eastern Panama. Phytoecdysteroids have been proposed as defence molecules against non-adapted insect herbivores. Compound 2 is thought to be reported for the first time in Commelinaceae.
