European growers are to lose access to many crop protection products because manufacturers will chose not to go to the expense of re-registering them. The UK is a typical example. In July this year, a major impact on European horticulture will be felt when 320 plant protection products (PPP) will be withdrawn from the market. Names like Fungarid, Dorado and Nimrod Twill disappear forever. Another 150 substances could also be withdrawn in July when the EC issues a second notification call on a further 200 products. About 50 are expected to remain on the market after re-registration. Together with the 20 products already banned, this represents a loss of 60 percent of all the substances that were available ten years ago.
