2009 was by all means the worst year the reefer trade had to endure for a long time. 2010 was not far from that. There are, in fact, some small encouraging signs that 2010 has been the turning point and the industry is on its way to recovery. An obvious sign is the sharply decreased fleet. 47 units or 18.1 million cubic feet (cbft) have been scrapped in 2010. With less available tonnage the future should again look brighter, but one might argue that container lines are back in strength as well and will take whatever the reefer trade will leave or have left behind.
