The Fraunhofer Institute of Materials Engineering in Halle an der Saale has placed an order for a Titan 58 conical twin-screw extruder with Cincinnati Extrusion GmbH, the Austrian mechanical engineering company. The extruder will be the core component of a new technology centre for wood extrusion. The Institute, which has been engaged in intensive research in the field of compound fibre-based plastics, intends to conduct in-depth studies based on extruded high-density wood profiles. The development of innovative materials, such as polymers, compound fibre materials and biological materials, is one of the priorities of the Institute. It performs application-oriented research in innovative key areas of technology, such as micro-electronics and micro-systems technology other research priorities are bio-engineering and the recycling potential of materials. A modern technology centre is available for these research and development activities.
