摘要

A straightforward route to glycopolymers bearing pendent gluconic residues is presented. The functionalization of poly(allylamine) by gluconolactone in water gives rise to gluconamide-substituted polymers within minutes at room temperature. The resulting polymers are characterized by 1H NMR. The grafting reaction is limited by competition with hydrolysis of gluconolactone, which is favoured when the pH increases. In presence of borax a hydrogel is obtained, which is attributed to the complexation of boron by the multivalent glycopolymer. In consequence these modified polymers could be used as rheology additives for aqueous formulations.
