We have several 29 GPM pressure compensating pumps in our plant. When we have a hydraulic problem, the pump is changed, but many times this does not solve the problem. Can you give us some quick and easy checks to make to determine if the problem is with the pump? First off, determine whether the problem is caused by a low volume or pressure condition. If the load is moving too slowly, it usually indicates a low volume condition. If the load is not moving at all, the gauge should be checked to see whether adequate pressure is available to move the load. Prior to testing the pump, make some visual checks, including verifying that the electric motor is running, checking the pump coupling, and making sure that no lines in the system are ruptured.
