The MTCC-1, from Morphic Technologies, uses impact cross cutting to give straight cuts without cracks, burrs or deformations in a range of materials from very hard titanium to very soft copper and aluminium. This machine is said to be able to reduce customers' costs and be easy to operate, and it features a new tooling system in which the traditionally square-shaped dies have been replaced by round ones. This system is easy to open up for die replacement and cleaning, and the machine can cut and feed at a rate of up to 400 operations/minute with a feeding length of 50 mm. The cutting unit is fully controlled via a central control system that monitors the movement and energy of the cutting tool, the positioning of the feeder and the efficiency of the absorber. If any malfunction is detected, the operator is notified and the feeding stopped to avoid material being fed into a nonoperational cutting tool.
