We reply here to comments of Stiros and Pirazzoli (Marine Geology, 2007) who suggest that the rates of global sea-level fluctuation and their amplitudes are only parts of a complex of forces, in particular tectonics and volcanism. Those forces according to their model shaped and changed the morphology and history of most marine areas around Greece. They apply this model to our study area, the Northern Evvoikos Gulf, as well as to some areas elsewhere. For the Evvoikos Gulf as well as many other marine areas of the Aegean and Ionian Seas (see Perissoratis and Mitropoulos, 1989; Piper and Perissoratis, 1991; Perissoratis and van Andel, 1991; van Andel et al., 1993), we have assembled and published a large marine data base. In particular in a paper by Perissoratis and Conispoliatis (2003) the data we collected show beyond any reasonable doubt that the major force controlling the late Quaternary depositional history and shape of the sea-floor around Greece were formed by global sea-level changes driven by the numerous glaciation-interglacial cycles of the Pleistocene. In that paper we studied about 20 regions of the Aegean and Ionian Seas including the North and South Ewoikos Gulfs in great detail, also taking into account the sedimentary record, all seismic reflection data, tectonism and even some geo-archaeological evidence, but the force that shaped the history and morphology of each area again was without question the work of the repeated cycles of Pleistocene sea-level changes.
