The retention of impurities (oxides, silicates, etc.)during the pouring of alloys is a source of concern to thefoundryman who is always seeking to improve the quality of hiscastings. So, the filtration of the liquid metal seems to be necessaryto obtain a pure liquid and the porous medium or foams seem tobe very useful for retaining impurities.
