Quality assurance of light metal cast vehicle wheels. In this publication, the air tightness control of light alloy cast wheels is treated. The conditions to carry out a reliable control of the wheels rim air leakage and requirements presented in specifications and norms of individual car companies are discussed. The results of practical experience of a wheel manufacturer concerning the amount of necessary wheel replacements due to the rim leakage in the last five years (2011-2015) are presented and evaluated. Finally, a proposal is made to adapt the specifications and norms of car companies to meet the requirements for a reliable and economical air tightness control in modern, mainly fully automated test facilities.
