Effect of Traces of CO_2 on Arc-Ultrasonic TIG-Welded MGH956 Alloy

摘要

MGH956 alloy was arc-ultrasonic welded by tungsten insert gas (TIG) welding with 0.5% CO_2 added in the shielding gas. The porosity and microstructure of the welds were investigated and the mechanism of traces of CO_2 on MGH956 alloy TIG welding was analyzed. The results indicate that the interface between reinforcement phases and matrix is clean and they are firmly bonded with arc ultrasonic introduced. Based on the effects of arc ultrasonic, the segregation of reinforcement phases decreases, and they are uniformly distributed in the weld with 0.5% CO_2 added in pure argon. The grains in the weld center are fine and equiaxed. The tensile strength and the toughness of the joint are improved.
