Last month, the wild fluctuations in equity markets and the weakening of the US dollar had seen the funds increase their exposure to LME metals. This provided strong support to a nickel market that was already starting to benefit from heightened activity on the part of stainless steel producers. However, it seems that the entry of so many speculators to the market has artificially inflated prices to such a degree that a correction has been long overdue.
