摘要

The overarching aim of medical schools is to produce graduates who are doctors who provide quality patient care. The provision and assurance of quality patient care comes through dedication to being a reflective practitioner, one who can identify and articulate strengths as well as areas in need of improvement in themselves, their team, and crucially their peers. The ability to peer evaluate is explicitly recognized as an essential and core outcome and competency of medical graduates. For instance, in the UK, the GMC indicates that tomorrow's doctors are expected to "function effectively as a mentor and teacher including contributing to the appraisal, assessment and review of colleagues, giving effective feedback and taking advantage of opportunities to develop these skills" (GMC 2009). In Canada, the CanMEDS framework suggests that one of the expected roles of a physician would be to "demonstrate a commitment to their patients, profession and society through participation in profession-led regulation [including] participation in peer review" (Frank 2005).
