摘要

Norcini and Burch's (2007) review of workplace-based assessment (WBA) summarised a considerable body of evidence in favour of its use, particularly with regard to validity and reliability. The whole notion of WBA that sits at the top of Miller's pyramid, backed up by sound research is a powerful incentive for its use in on-the-job medical training (Miller 1990). At the heart of formative WBA and progressive deeper learning lies high-quality, timely feedback (Rushton 2005), but this frequently fails to occur, as Norcini and Burch themselves point out.
