Researchers at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the University of California,Berkeley have experimentally demonstrated the previously forecast fast transport of water and gases through carbon nanotube membranes,which could speed their practical use in energy-efficient desalination or gas separations.According to project leader Olgica Bakajin the research team measured gas and water flows 100 to 10,000 times faster than what classical models predict.This is like having a garden hose that can deliver as much water in the same amount of time as a fire hose that is ten times larger," she says.
