BHP Iron Ore is to go ahead immediately with the expansion of its Yandi mine in Western Australia, which will see annual production of fines rise from 15m to 25m tonnes Although BHP has not signed long term contracts to cover the extra output, a spokesman said that the acceptance of the product has been nothing less than remarkable and that the company will have no trouble finding a home for the additional 10m tonnes Yandi began production only 314 years ago at the modest rate of 5m tpy and was expanded soon after to 10m and more recently to 15m tonnes, largely driven by demand for the fines.
