However, he also expressed the view that the aluminium industry would remain an important part of the national economy. "I hope that we will soon eliminate special rales for taxation and stabilise the property ownership situation, even when privatisation has been done rather irregularly," he said. In particular, he stressed that tax and customs exemptions should be abolished, along with credit subsidies. "If we resolve these problems, then we shall move, step by step, towards normal capitalism. If not, Russia will go on providing splendid examples of corruption," he remarked.
